Prenatal Care
• On-call availability of midwives in case of emergency. Otherwise, we are available during regular business hours
• Initial appointment with complete physical exam and PAP if indicated, Ultrasound orders and inital prenatal labs
• Our custom booklet, containing vital information for your pregnancy, home birth and postpartum recovery
• Diet and exercise analysis, and nutritional counseling
• 30 -60 minute prenatal visits in a comfortable setting
• Weight, urine, blood pressure, fetal heart tones, and growth are all carefully monitored
• Access to our lending library and other educational resources
• Blood draws are included in our fees, but lab fees may be extra - insurance can be billed for lab-work
• 36 week birth and breastfeeding readiness visit
Postpartum Care
• On-call availability of midwives in case of emergency. Otherwise, we are available during regular business hours
• Birth Certificate filing preparation and documentation
• 2 postpartum visits in your home during first week - includes:
• Weight checks for baby
• Breastfeeding assistance and advice
• Checking vital signs of both mother and baby until 28 days of age
• 1 postpartum office visits for mom and baby
• 6 week office checkup, with postpartum exam
Home Birth or Out of Hospital Birth Care
• 24 hour on-call availability of midwives from 37 weeks to 42 weeks
• 2 Birth Attendants - 1 midwife and 1 birth assistant
• Continuous Nurse Midwifery care for mother and baby monitoring to ensure safe labor, birthing and postpartum recovery
• Continuous labor support by a skilled, loving and highly experienced midwife
• Use of our custom-made birth stool
• Use of our natural health kits such as essential oils, herbal preparations and tinctures, and homeopathic remedies
• Facilitated family bonding time shortly after birth
• Facilitated skin to skin time in the first few hours after birth
• Breastfeeding assessment and ongoing support by a lactation specialist
• Postpartum support and monitoring 2-4 hours after mom and baby are stable
• Travel to and from your home, equipment transfer to your home, use or equipment below, additional on call midwife
• Assistance in transport to the hospital including continued presence until the baby is born in the unlikely event a hospital transport due to complications for mother or baby, additional charges per hour may apply.
We bring supplies, medication and/or equipment be needed in the case of emergencies, or complications such as anti-hemorrhage meds, oxygen, suturing supplies, newborn resuscitation equipment, mechanical suctioning, IV supplies, ect)
Newborn Care –
Initial Newborn Exam – Performed at bedside.
This includes: Heart rate, respiratory status, gestational age assessment, weight, length, and other various measurements including assessment of reflexes and other bio-physical markers.Vitamin K shot, and antibiotic eye ointment are provided for baby (optional)
24-36 hours – Home Visit Physical Exam and assessment of the normal newborn's adjustment to life including, heart rate, respirations, color, jaundice check, newborn behaviors, breastfeeding observation, Lactation Consultation and weight checks.
3-5 days – Home Visit Physical Exam and assessment of the normal newborn's adjustment to life including, heart rate, respirations, color, jaundice check, newborn behaviors, breastfeeding observation, Lactation Consultation and weight checks. Newborn metabolic screening or PKU test collected and sent.
2 weeks – Office Visit Physical Exam and assessment of the normal newborn's adjustment to life including, heart rate, respirations, color, jaundice check, newborn behaviors, breastfeeding observation, Lactation Consultation and weight checks. Address for any breast feeding or weight gain issues. Recommendation to a follow up pediatrician with newborn and birth report faxed ahead of first pediatrician visit
4 weeks (<28 days) – Office Visit Assessment on the normal newborn adjustment to life including, heart rate, respirations, color, jaundice check, newborn behaviors, breastfeeding observation, Hearing screen and weight checks.
Additional Lactation Visits: (Usually covered by your insurance plans) 30 – 60 minute office or home visits that include: Observation of breast feeding techniques, breast feeding behaviors, sore nipples, sore breasts, treatment of breast infections and/or return to work planning. We can prescribe antibiotics and use a special compounding formula for nipple infection and/or thrush.
